The Highlands Ability Battery
The Highlands Ability Battery is a three-hour objective inquiry into the abilities and ability patterns of the individual who completes it.
The Battery consists of nineteen different worksamples. Each worksample is timed to measure the speed with which the individual is able to do a particular series of similar tasks. The individual’s score on each worksample establishes whether a particular task is more or less easy for that individual. Shown together on a personal profile and bar chart, the scores achieved by each individual reveal patterns or “clusters” of abilities which require analysis by
a skilled interpreter. Once these patterns or “clusters” are understood, the individual is helped to guide his life and work into more productive and satisfying channels.
My Battery:
I was given the opportunity to learn about, and take, the Battery as part of the Career Development class I took during my Masters program. It was an extremely challenging, but wonderful and insightful process. I would recommend it to anyone.
I was hesitant about posting my own results because they require so much interpretation, but ultimatly decided it would be useful. The results are given as percentiles compared to everyone else who has taken that worksample. Please note that some areas are directly opposed to eachother so they cannot all be high (ie you can't be a Generalist and Specialist at the same time).
The interpretation aspect of the Battery is an amazing process to go through. For example, when I first looked at the chart below I was confused about how my "Number Memory" score could be so low because I'm very good at remembering numbers and random facts or data (all part of this measurment). I realized during the interpretation that my high scores in "Design Memory," "Observation," and "Visual Accuracy" give me more of a photographic memory and makes up for my low score in "Number Memory." I can recall the same information as someone with a high "Number Memory" score but I do it in a different way.
